Mendy Lipsker of www.mendyrealty.com discusses the hard work and perseverance it takes to have a success real estate practice.Everyone is busy with their email and their texting and their Facebook. They want fast food and quick results. They want the answers now and they can’t wait.

A lot of us are going out there and doing sales in real estate, which is a very unique type of selling. One sale’s commission pays you for many, many hours of work. Sometimes we don’t realize how much effort we have to put in to get a sale done.

What happens to some real estate people is that they get frustrated, run down and burned out. They think, “This is not working. Maybe I should do something else.” Sometimes they even take that step, quit, but then the deal they were working on actually closes. They get their commission and realize, “Wow! This thing does work.”

I’ve seen people stuck in between; they’ve already started on a new career, but realizing now that their real estate career works, they want to go back to it. That means they have to make a choice.

There is no question about whether buying and selling real estate works because as I’ve mentioned in other articles, we all use real estate every single day. What happens is that we have to believe that we can do it; believe in ourselves.

The first rule is, “Don’t Give Up Before the Miracle.”  Believe you can do it and you can do it. The market is there, the people are there, the industry is there. There are emerging markets all over. Things change around in real estate. Right now, Brooklyn is a very, very hot market. An emerging market; everyone wants to invest over here now. But things change around. Sometimes you have to listen and really pay attention:

  • What’s going on in the market?
  • What’s the best market to be in?

You have to be willing to change and work with that.

Sometimes we tend to give up and quit too soon because in this age of fast food, and the microwave, and McDonalds and Starbucks, we want instant results. In real estate, however, we have to be more like the crock pot that takes some time to cook. There are no quickies in real estate. You have got to face the long haul, and never give up.

“Don’t Give Up Before the Miracle” is a good motto for every industry, but I’m stressing how in real estate it is even more so because real estate is definitely a long-term process. You have to get to some kind of breakthrough. Once you do, and your pipeline is full and things are going well, you will be laughing at yourself for being all stressed out and ready to quit.

Have faith. Stay focused. Work hard. Don’t stop. The only thing that can stop you is yourself. Don’t quit and don’t give up before your miracle.
