I’m Hiring Salespeople By Mendy Lipsker{4:12 minutes to read} The real estate market is exploding. In Brooklyn, the median selling price is just above $675,000, which is 25% higher than the pre-recession median price in 2007. This is a great time for sellers who want to cash out or move up. And it’s a great time for buyers who want to lock in today’s values before prices climb higher. Investors are scrambling to get in on the action.[1]

Because of heightened activity, I need experienced salespeople who are excited about creating a profitable career for themselves. However, I’m picky. It’s important to me I have quality salespeople, so there are certain characteristics I’m looking for:

Experience: You must have a track record of successful sales. Real estate experience preferred, but not required. If you are a beginner at sales, I have great respect for you, but my time is limited because buyers and sellers need me. Yes, I’ll train and work closely with all of the salespeople I hire, but I don’t have time to start at the beginning.

High-Income Earner: I’m looking for salespeople who feel the drive to make a lot of money. This means you are a self-starter, you handle stress and rejection well, and you are self-disciplined enough to use your time wisely, not wastefully.

Honesty and Integrity: Do I need to explain this? If honesty and integrity are not your strengths, don’t apply.

Care about Helping Others: Real estate sales is a very intimate profession. It gets personal. You will be in the homes of sellers. You will be giving buyers advice that could affect them and their kids for the rest of their lives. When working with investors, some of their willingness to take risks will be based on your judgement. So you can see, caring is an important strength. So is willingness to go the extra mile to be helpful. In real estate sales, you get paid to genuinely help people. (If this is unclear, re-read the section about honesty and integrity.)

Open-Minded: You will work with a wide variety of people and situations. The salespeople I hire will be open-minded, flexible, friendly to all, patient, and willing to build strong relationships while still being focused on closing sales and dealing with the complexities of real estate transactions.

Ability to Live on Commissions: Real estate is a commission-only business. Frankly, not everyone can handle that. You have to decide for yourself. I have very generous commission plans that allow you to make a high income.

Problem-Solver: The reason commissions are generous is because it is common for problems to come up in real estate transactions that average buyers and sellers do not know how to solve by themselves. They need you. Examples would be tenants who don’t move out on time, finding financing, getting a clear title, soothing bruised egos, and more. Another way of looking at this: You have to work hard for your earnings by helping buyers and sellers overcome obstacles on the way to the closing table.

If the above gets you excited – instead of scaring you off! – I’d like to talk with you. I’m only going to hire 5 salespeople at this time. And like I said, I’m picky. If you have what it takes, working with me will be financially rewarding, fun, and meaningful.
